As my first "Choice Post" I have decided to write about Dougie Poynter. Some of you may recognise him as the guy who won "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" It is true, Dougie Poynter stuck it out through one of the most difficult game shows to reach television. This isn't because of difficult questions or suspense in the lead up to a million dollars, but is because of the hardships, both gross and stressful, that multiple English celebrities, including Dougie Poynter" had to endure. However, through cockroaches and snakes, Dougie pulled through and won the title of "King of the Jungle." His nominated charity was also donated to thoroughly throughout the series as part of a payment for appearing on the show. Dougie Poynter, along with the other celebrities, were also paid for any loss of income during the show.
Of course, to appear on the series, Dougie Poynter must already be a celebrity. At the age of fifteen, he auditioned as a bassist for Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, who were also looking for a drummer, and found Harry Judd. As the youngest member of the band, Dougie Poynter meant that McFly took the record of the youngest band to have a number one hit single from the Beatles. Now, ten years on, McFly is becoming more and more popular and well known. Their most recent song, reaching Australian popular radio, is Love is easy. In the official video, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones are the main vocalists.
As much as Dougie Poynter appears to be an extremely happy person, his past is darkened by drugs, depression and attempted suicide. Addicted to both alcohol and drugs due to his depression and break up with previous girlfriend, Frankie Sandford, Dougie Poynter attempted to end his life by gassing himself in his own car. However, this attempt failed and as he sobered up, Dougie Poynter decided to seek help. He entered rehab and has been clean and sober ever since.
